# Quick Start

1. **Unpack and inspect** the unit.
   _TODO: package contents list (power cords, rack ears, etc.)._
2. **Mount** it in a 19" rack ({ref}`rack-mounting`).
3. **Connect power** to both power supplies ({ref}`power-supplies`).
4. **Connect the console cable** (micro-USB) or an Ethernet cable to **eth0** ({ref}`first-connection`).
5. **Log in** and **change the default passwords** ({ref}`first-login-security`).
6. **Set the IP address** if DHCP is not wanted ({ref}`network-configuration`).
7. **Clean and connect the fibers**, with attenuators so that both directions receive similar power ({ref}`edfa-optical-setup`).
8. **Set the pump current**, check gain and power levels ({ref}`edfa-amplifier-settings`).
9. **Save the configuration:** `copy running startup`.
